Workshop on "Education sector awareness on the threat of Violent Extremism and Terrorism in Maldives" commences in Addu City

A one-day awareness workshop for Principals, Heads of Schools, and Senior Educators of Addu City. The aim of the workshop is to educate and enhance the role of education sector in the national efforts to prevent spread of Violent Extremism through enhancing resilience to address the issue of ideological difference, promotion of peace, respect and tolerance.

NCTC presented the first draft of the NAP on P/CVE to the Counter Radicalization Committee during a special meeting held at MNDF Coast Guard Building. The session started with remarks by the DG followed by the presentation of the current draft of the NAP by UNDP consultant Mr. Jonas Horner.

Counter Radicalization Committee meeting held

A special meeting of the Counter Radicalization Committee was held on request of UNDP Maldives to introduce the members of the CR committee to the PCVE consultant Mr. Robert Templer, who is presently conducting a UNDP led Nationwide Youth Vulnerability Assessment project. This project would assist in the development of the PCVE National Action Plan. The draft plan is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

NCTC Conducts an Awareness Workshop for senior educators on Violent extremism and Terrorism

Minister of Defence and National Security Hon. Adam Shareef inaugurated the first One day workshop on increasing the awareness of senior educators of Greater Male Area on Violent Extremism and Terrorism. The one-day workshop for Senior Educators started off at 0900hrs with an inaugural speech by the Minister of Defence. In his speech, he highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the Educators in nurturing a more tolerant society. He further highlighted that the economy of Maldives is highly dependent on tourism which in turn is dependent on creating a more peaceful society. The workshop was attended by 43 participants from 19 Schools of greater Male Area a, Ministry of Education and College of Defence Studies.

Youth Leaders Network (YLN) conducted a Youth Forum themed "Republic and youth" in GA.Villingili. The forum was held on 20th and 21st of July, at GA. Atoll Education Centre. Over 50 participants from the island participated in the forum. NCTC conducted a session on the ‘Role of Youth in Peace and Security,’ and the presentation highlighted the importance of youth engagement in maintaining the security and peace within the society.

His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Sareer, Foreign Secretary of the Republic of Maldives, inaugurated the National Legislative Workshop on the Implementation of Transport-related Maritime Counter Terrorism International Legal Instruments. The workshop is scheduled to take place from 3 to 5 July in Hotel Jen. Thirty participants from 12 government agencies participate in the workshop.

Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar inaugurated the formulation of the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism at a meeting of the Counter Radicalization Committee. The committee meeting was held at MNDF Coast Guard Building Conference Hall and was chaired by the Minister of Defence and National Security Honorable Adam Shareef Umar.
