Director General of NCTC Meets with UN Resident Coordinator

The Director General of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) met with UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to the Maldives, Ms Shoko Noda.

Brigadier General Mansoor welcomed and expressed gratitude to the UN for the continued assistance and support extended to the national efforts to counter the threats related to radicalization and Violent Extremism in the Maldives.

During the meeting, Ms Shoko Noda highlighted about the ongoing programs initiated by UN Maldives and conducted in collaboration with government and other agencies. Ms. Shoko Noda stressed about the importance of working together in implementing future projects and programs in order to enhance the effectiveness of the programs.

Brigadier General Mansoor provided and overview of the recent programs with national collaborative efforts and programs being conducted to prevent and counter spread of radicalization and violent extremist ideology. Brigadier General Mansoor also stressed on the need for enhancing the international collaboration and also highlighted on the focus on synchronizing NCTC’s programs with UN Maldives programs.

Ambassador Endo also praised the national efforts to foster progressive and moderate religious ideology, enhance patriotism and peaceful tolerance initiated by President Abdulla Yameen in February this year.

Ms Shoko Noda and Brigadier General Mansoor also discussed about the areas of support required and areas of collaboration between NCTC and UN Maldives.
