Brigadier General Mansoor joined the ranks of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in 1984, and was commissioned 8 years later. Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor was appointed as the Director General, National Counter Terrorism Centre at the Ministry of Defence and National Security on 21st April 2016. Prior to this posting he was the Commander of MNDF Central Area.
During his 32 years of distinguished service, the General has held various command and staff appointments. The General has served as the Commandant of MNDF Coast Guard and held posts at various echelons in the Coast Guard during his professional career. His earlier command appointments include the Director General of MNDF Coast Guard, Commanding Officerof Quarter Master Services, Regional Headquarters - S.Gan, Regional Headquarters - Hulhule and Regional Headquarters - Lh.Madivaru. General Mansoor has been a key figure in leading Maldives Coast Guard through the rapid transformation and restructuring.
In 2014, General Mansoor graduated from the United StatesNational Defence University with a Master of Arts in Strategic and Security Studies.The Generalis also a graduate of the United States Naval Staff College and has also completed Midshipman Course at Royal Naval College, (UK) as well. He has also completed US Coast Guard International Maritime Officers Course, (USA), International Riverine and Coastal Operations Course, (USA), Coast Guard Training Course, (UK), Oil Spill Clearance Course, (UK), Basic Staff Course, (Pakistan), International Search and Rescue Course, Australia, and Maritime Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator Course, (China). He is also a fellow of the Asia Pacific Centre for Security Studies, (Honolulu, Hawaii).
The General has also represented the Maldives and the Maldives National Defence Force at various seminars and conferences around the globe. They include the International Public Affairs Symposium 2002, International Sea Power Symposium, (USA), Near East - South Asia Centre for Strategic Studies Executive Seminar, (USA), Regional International Maritime Humanitarian Law Conference, (India), Annual International Military Operations and Law Conference, (USA), Indian Ocean Naval Symposium -2008 and 2010, and Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies Transnational Security Cooperation Course (USA) in 2016.
Brigadier General Mansoor is a highly decorated officer. Whose service medals and ribbons include Presidential Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Long Service Medal, Dedicated Service Medal, Defence Force Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Third November Medal, Centenary Medal, 17th SAARC Summit Medal, Ribbon for Bravery, Special Service Ribbon, Special Duty Ribbon, Ribbon of Skill and Achievement Ribbon.
The General is married to Mrs Fathmath Nasheedha and is blessed with three sons and a daughter.
